More Nipissing Students are showing unrest about the ongoing Nipissing University faculty strike.

Sarah Prendergast has accumulated more than 2,000 signatures through an online change.org campaign in hopes of ending the faculty strike.

“It is time for the students to start receiving their education again as they have invested thousands of dollars in Nipissing University and North Bay. At this point, the strike is punishing the students in a multitude of ways.”

Prendergast believes the strike is creating an elevated amount of anxiety, depression and stress on students who don’t know yet what the consequences will be from this faculty strike.

“Once we get to return to class, the amount of stress will only increase as there is the potential to have to submit an overwhelming number of assignments immediately,” she stated in the introduction for the petition.

The petition is creating a lot of noise among students as well.

“I'm signing because 'I'm proud to be a Laker' and '#ibelongatnipissingu' means nothing anymore,” one fourth year Nipissing University student stated on the petition message board.

On Monday, Nipissing University received a message from the provincially appointed mediator inviting both parties to an exploratory meeting.

That will take place tomorrow.

The strike is now in its fourth week as the two sides are at a stalemate over wages, governance and job security.
