Over 160 Nipissing University students participated in the inaugural Inter-Residents' Council’s Relay for Life at Governor’s House Residence Friday.

Sara Brown and Kayla Reinert spearheaded the event as a way to give back the community as well as offering an opportunity for students to get to know one and other.

“We did it when we were in high school, it was a great event and very successful, so we decided to bring it here,” states Brown.

“We thought it would build a sense of community within the residence including the new students that just arrived in September, and it would raise money for a great cause.”

The evening offered plenty of excitement on top of walking the track as throughout the night there was music, soccer, dance aerobics and movies.

Final tabulations will be completed today but as of midnight Saturday the students had raised over 13-thousand dollars for the local Cancer Society.
