The Nipissing University Environmental Action Committee is looking to raise funds for the Ghana Biowater Sand Filter Project.

They will be raking leaves on Friday, November 2nd and Saturday, November 3rd.

To schedule your lawn, please call Andrew at 492-4530 or Kristina at 492-7163.

More about the project:

The project of building biosand filters is a simple, relatively inexpensive and easy to maintain filter that is highly effective in improving water quality. To make a filter you first require a metal mould which costs approximately $400 to produce (dependant on the local labour and supply costs). The mould can then be used over and over again to produce the filters. The material for the filters themselves costs only around $20! Our goal is to teach women (in a cooperative setting) how to make the moulds so that they can sell them within their communities. In this way, we achieve our goals of improving health and providing the women with a sustainable future.Of course we can't achieve anything without sponsorship so part of our time has to be spent fundraising. All the money we receive for raking will goes towards accomplishing our goals of supporting others in developing countries; our next trip is scheduled for February 2008.
