The York Region school board has hired Louise Sirisko, who is currently with the Ministry of Education.

Original story:

After just 2 1/2 years on the job, the top dog at the Near North District School Board wants out.

Jackie Young has applied for York Region District School Board director.

The local board hired Young from the York Region District School Board where she had served as an Area Superintendent, Student Services Coordinator, and School Principal.

Young hopes to leave at, what is a critical time for the Board. At the time Young was hired, Chair David Thompson said Young’s first order of business would be a strategic plan. There now is high school and elementary school consolidation on the agenda.

“We’re at the beginning of our strategic plan process which will set the direction for next three to five years, so she’s going to be at ground level in moving that forward, said Thompson.”

The Toronto Star now reports Young is on the shortlist for the Toronto job and faced tough questions "after sending a directive saying the Northern Ontario board she runs would refuse to deal with parents’ concerns if they went to the media first."

The Star says Young got a rebuke from Minister of Education Mitzie Hunter before backtracking.

Board Chair David Thompson would not comment on Young's application to York, but told BayToday that " Any staff that looks to improve their employment situation the Board is very supportive of. If someone thinks they can get a better job you want to encourage that. You don't want to lose people either, but you can't prevent people from trying to improve themselves or take on a better job."

An email request to Young seeking comment was not immediately returned.
