The Near North District School Board has a new Director of Education.
She is Jackie Young from the York Region District School Board where she most recently served as an Area Superintendent for the past four years, Student Services Coordinator and School Principal.
Young will start February 19.
Board Chairman David Thompson says Young’s first order of business will be a strategic plan which is just getting underway.
“We’re at the beginning of our strategic plan process which will set the direction for next three to five years, so she’s going to be at ground level in moving that forward.”
A news release from the board says Young’s vision is to “continue the wonderful work already in place in the Near North District School Board with a focus on delivering high quality inclusive education.”
“I am honoured to be included into the Near North District School Board family and look forward to working with a strong senior staff and the many dedicated staff to continue our journey to improve student achievement.” said Young.
“I look forward to meeting with students and families and gaining a strong sense of how we can work together.”
Young will replace Geof Botting, who is retiring after 32 years in public education.
The Board is currently experiencing a bit of a rebound according to Thompson.
“We’re up over 200 students over our projections and that’s great news because it tells us that we’re doing some great programming. Our French immersion programs are just busting at the seams and it tells us that kids and families have a lot of trust in our programing and they’re coming from other boards.”
