Multiple charges laid in Cache Bay drug bust

Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) and the Nipissing West Detachment executed a search warrant at a residence on Cache Bay Road in the Municipality of West Nipissing (Sturgeon Falls) which resulted in multiple arrests and charges on July 29 at 7 p.m. 

Officers seized a quantity of drugs suspected to be: Fentanyl, Crystal Methamphetamine, Methamphetamine tablets and Hydromorphone along with drug paraphernalia and over $6500 in Canadian currency. The street value of the drugs seized is approximately $7800.

As a result of the investigation, seven people were arrested and charged:

Benjamin Beaucage, age 38, from Nipissing First Nation, was charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Methamphetamine, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA); and
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 - in Canada, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC).

The accused was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on October 1, 2020 in Sturgeon Falls.

Joseph Nixon, age 43, from Sturgeon Falls, was charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Methamphetamine, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA;
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Opioid (other than heroin), contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA;
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance - Methamphetamine, contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA;
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance - Opioid (other than heroin), contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA; and
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000 - in Canada, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC.

The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice - Bail Court on July 30, 2020 in North Bay.

Brittney Beauclair, age 32, from Sturgeon Falls, was charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance - Methamphetamine, contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA;
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance - Opioid (other than heroin), contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA; and
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order, contrary to section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code (CC).

David Dempsey, age 47, from Sturgeon Falls, and Cody LARIVIERE, age 22, of no fixed address, were charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance - Methamphetamine, contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA; and
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance - Opioid (other than heroin), contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA.

Haedyn Fry, age 19, from Sturgeon Falls, was charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance - Methamphetamine, contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA.

Sophie Lafleur, age 39, from Corbeil, ON, was charged with:

  • Failure to Comply with Release Order - other than to attend court, contrary to section 145(5)(a) of the CC.

The five accused persons were released on an Appearance Notice and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on October 1, 2020 in Sturgeon Falls.
