MTO installing winter storm warning signs for Northern Ontario

The Ministry of Transportation has revealed that more than 20 new signs will be put up on Northern Ontario highways to let drivers know about road closures and upcoming winter storms.  

"These signs will be updated by our regional traffic operation centres, delivering crucial road safety information to drivers in real-time. plows are on provincial highways," explained Dakota Brasier, senior communications advisor, and press secretary for the Ministry of Transportation.  

The 20 signs will be spread out across the north with Highway 11 N near Gravenhurst as the furthest south location. 

In North Bay, a new sign will be located on Highway 11 & 17 southbound west of the Highway 17 ramp.  

"The government is taking action to improve safety on roads during the winter months in Northern Ontario," the MTO said.  

"Installing additional Portable Variable Message Signs increases awareness about upcoming winter storms and highway closures, and gives drivers the real-time information they need if the highway is closed. These additional signs have been installed in key locations along the highway corridor based on road closure analysis. All signs are portable."
