NORTH BAY - The Ministry of Natural Resources would like to advise the public that the two male cubs which were frequently seen roaming through residential areas of North Bay have been caught by ministry staff.

The first male cub was caught last Sunday on Bloom Street and the second male cub was caught last Monday afternoon on McLeod Street. Both cubs have been sent to the Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre in Sprucedale.

In order to avoid bear problems, the ministry would like to remind the public to clean barbeques after every use, keep garbage stored where it is inaccessible to bears, remove all birdfeeders until winter and do not feed pets outdoors. This is a bad natural food year for bears in this area. That means they are more likely to enter populated areas looking for alternate food sources.

If you have a bear problem, call the Bear Wise line toll-free at 1-866-514-2327 (BEAR). If it's a life-threatening emergency, contact your local police or 911.

For more information on what you can do, visit our website at bears.mnr.gov.on.ca or see the attached fact sheet on bears in the community.

3 additional cubs were caught last week. Two were caught in the Pinewood area (last Tuesday and one yesterday) and one was caught on Airport Hill on Wednesday.
