The Military Family Resource Centre launched an awareness campaign in support of the Veteran Family Program yesterday afternoon.

The Veteran Family Program is a partnership between Military Family Services and Veterans Affairs Canada and aims to ease the transition for medically releasing and released members and their families from military to post-service life.

The City proclaimed it “Veteran Family Day” in North Bay and a new partnership with Twiggs franchises was announced.

Julie Charette's brother has PTSD and she told CKAT that the centre has made a big difference in their lives with their support programs.

"There was a retreat planned for the veteran members and their families. It took some coaxing on my part to get my brother out there. I believe in the program and he eventually broke down and said yes and he hasn't regretted it," she says.

"I have so much appreciation for the work that they do and what they offer."

Twiggs, with locations in North Bay, Sturgeon Falls and Sudbury is offering discounts to military families. Every family will have one card so they'll all get a discount when they come into any of their locations.

Laura Twigg is an owner of Twiggs Coffee Roasters.

She says two of their franchisees are military family members and they know first hand the difference the MFRC is making for families.

"Twiggs has been in North Bay for well over 20 years and we're proud to be in the community and we get involved with as many things as possible, especially if we think that it's going to benefit people and we really think it's going to benefit people.

"This program benefits people. Everybody that works for the resource centre has the veterans and their families best interests at heart. Supporting that makes it all worth it and we want to be part of that," Twigg says. The MFRC helps military family members access services for families who are transitioning to a new community while their loved ones are serving.
