Mattawa man faces assault and weapon charges

Mattawa OPP arrested a Mattawa man following an incident on Saturday, July 5th at approximately 2 a.m. at a local restaurant on Main Street.

Officers responded to a complaint of a man threatening the patrons with a knife. Officers attended minutes within the initial call and the male suspect had fled on foot. Several victims described being threatened by a male. Following a search of the immediate area, OPP canine and Emergency Response Team were requested to assist the officers in locating the suspect.

Nicholas R. SARRAZIN was located on Janveau Road in Papineau-Cameron Township where he was arrested and charged with the following:

- Two counts of Assault with a weapon, as per s. 267(a) of the Criminal Code (cc);

- Two counts of Utter threat to cause death or bodily harm, as per s. 264.1(1)(a) cc; and

- One count of Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose as per s.88 cc.

SARRAZIN, 24 years old, of Mattawa, Ontario was held for a bail hearing scheduled on Monday, July 7th, 2008 at the North Bay Court.
