Aspiring Elvis or Celine Dion wannabes will get their chance to shine and compete in the Ontario-wide Top Prize Karaoke Series when the contest rolls into town for a qualifying event on Thursday, July 11, at The Fraser Tavern.
The qualifying event, one of at least 30 across the province, will see two contestants advance towards the regional championship event, from which two contestants will advance to the provincial finals. At the provincial final, winners will take home a substantial cash prize based on attendance over all the events says a news release from organizers.
Winners at the qualifying event will be decided by a combination of a panel of three judges and audience voting.
“We are projecting a prize at the provincial finals in the $10,000 range”, said Derek Sharp, one of the founders and organizers of Top Prize Karaoke.
Sharp added that there is a series-wide Secret Song contest, and if any singer happens to sing one of the selected Secret Songs, that singer will win a cash prize; which could be worth $50,000 or a smaller prize based on the number of contestants, depending on which of two Secret Songs they sing.
Every Top Prize Karaoke Series event supports a local organization or charity, and organizers are seeking a local charity to partner with. Any local organizations can contact Sharp directly at 905-375-7595.
Registration for the Top Prize Karaoke Series is $25. Tickets for audience members, which include voting privileges, are $10 each.
