Here's an interesting photo taken by one of our readers, Rich MacDonald of Corbeil.

"This picture was taken at my home. It is not an albino blue jay but it has a genetic issue called Leucism. It has all the traits of a blue jay except the colour," he wrote.

Leucism is an abnormal plumage condition caused by a genetic mutation that prevents pigment, particularly melanin, from being properly deposited on a bird’s feathers.

As a result, the birds do not have the normal, classic plumage colours.
