Local man victim in highway crash near Espanola

OPP say one of the victims in a two-vehicle accident near Espanola Friday is from North Bay.

Rob McGirr, 62, a retired McDonald's Restaurant manager from North Bay was the driver of the westbound vehicle, and Zachary Duval, 23, from Espanola was the driver of the eastbound vehicle travelling on Highway 17 w yesterday morning.

Police say the accident took place November 27, at 7:25 a.m.

McGirr had a 42-year long career at McDonald’s when he retired two years ago.

A post mortem examination has been ordered for Tuesday December 1, at Sudbury Health Sciences North. 

Members from the Espanola Detachment of the OPP, Manitoulin-Sudbury Emergency Medical Services, and Baldwin Township Fire Department and the OPP Technical Collision Investigators responded to the collision on Highway 17, approximately one kilometer west of Highway 6.

The investigation is ongoing under the direction of the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
