Local COVID cases surge over the weekend

The Nipissing Parry Sound district has been doing well so far in this latest wave of COVID-19, but figures from the weekend are worrying.

The Health Units reports as of 3 p.m. Monday, 28 new cases and 52 active cases.

The new cases are evenly split with North Bay having 14 new cases, and Parry Sound likewise.

Also today, two cases were reported in local high schools.

Chippewa reports a member of its hockey team is positive.

Meanwhile, adults in Ontario looking to book a COVID-19 vaccine booster may have to wait more than a week for an appointment as many health regions say bookings were snapped up this morning.

The province has expanded eligibility for booster shots to those ages 18 and older, as long as it has been at least three months since their second shot, due to rising case numbers and the threat of the Omicron variant.
