The Near North School Board reports a pair of active confirmed positive COVID-19 cases associated with two of its schools' sports teams.

Its website says both cases were reported yesterday and includes one each at West Ferris Secondary and Chippewa Secondary.

In both cases, the school remains open.

In a letter to West Ferris parents, it says, "As per standard protocol, the health unit has dismissed the affected class, those on a bus route, and school sports team. At this time, the school will remain open to in-person learning and the health unit has not declared an outbreak."

A similar letter has been sent to parents at Chippewa. Sources say that the positive case has been identified as a member of the Chippewa boy's hockey team.

The dismissed students will begin virtual learning today and remain in a virtual format until the winter break begins.

The website cautions a positive case at the school does not mean the individual was exposed to COVID-19 at the school. They may have been exposed somewhere else in the community.
