Planning the happiest day of their lives often spells disaster for a couple and as witnessed in a number of reality shows brings out the ‘Zilla’ in a bride, but one local company is doing something about it.

Partners Kyle Selle and David Dunkley have teamed up to launch OneStopWeddings.ca an on-line comprehensive site featuring everything from soup to nuts when it comes to your wedding needs.

Selle, who has been in the wedding business as a DJ for over a decade, is frequently called upon for advice from couples in the midst of planning the special day and realised there was an opportunity for a business. He and Dunkley covered all the bases when it comes to planning a wedding.

“I was actually driving to a DJ gig in Ottawa when a friend of mine phoned me up and said do you know someone who does catering on the cheap or that does photography and I need a DJ too because I already know that you are booked on that weekend. So I phoned my buddy Dave and said I think we have an idea here ... why don’t we put everything under one umbrella and everyone can plan a wedding at one site,” ” explains Selle.

“So we sat down and we designed the website, it took almost a year to come to fruition but it’s up and running now and we’ve had people go through the site and plan their weddings ... it cuts out a lot of the frustration involved in planning a wedding which is great and probably keeps more people together.”

Happy couple Chrystie Carr and Michael Greer who booked Selle as their DJ were the first couple to use the site and say within two days they had everything in place for their big day.

“It was a surprise to me that it was so easy using the site,” says Greer.

“I really was terrified to be honest with you (about planning the wedding) because I thought we were going to be dealing with multiple businesses and leafing through the yellow pages.”

“We did try bugging all of our friends (looking) for word of mouth and all of a sudden Kyle, who I was talking to personally, said I happen to have this site why don’t you go and have a look.”

“The second he pointed us towards it ... within a day and a half to two days we had our venue booked, our florist booked, our hair appointments booked ... everything you could possibly imagine for that day, decorator ... everything,” adds Carr.

Greer says because everything was on the site there were no surprises and he knew everything that needed to be done. He says that it is also great that the page isn’t exclusive and that it features choices in business and price points.

Carr says the whole process saved them months worth of work and worry.

“Literally if you are looking for a photographer you click on Kyle’s site and you click photographer and he has 6 or 7 photographers listed so you can immediately call those people and get an idea, get a price point, and you have a link to their website so that you can view their portfolio ... it’s just simplified.”

“It was just bing, bang, boom we planned it without a hitch.”

Selle adds the best part about the site is there is no cost to the couples.

“How we pay for the website is that there are 30 categories and businesses that are in a category pay to be there because they become an option for the brides and grooms.”

Selle adds that the focus is weddings however the site makes a great planning resource for all special events.
