An assault on a taxi driver last night led police to arrest a pair of men and charge them with assault.

Police say shortly after 9 p.m., a man assaulted a taxi driver while they were in his taxi at the 300 block of Sixth Avenue West. The taxi driver was not injured.

The dispatcher of the taxi company reported the trouble to police.

Three officers were immediately sent to the scene, where they found a pair of suspects outside the taxi.

Two men were arrested and police say one of their officers was also assaulted while arresting the suspects.

Jason Robert Hansman, age 34, of North Bay is charged with:

  • One count of assault;
  • One count of assault police officer; and
  • Two counts of breach of probation.

Police also arrested and charged a 32-year old North Bay man with one count of assault.

Hansman was held in custody pending a bail hearing, while the co-accused was released from custody with a court date scheduled for December 27th.

Police say it is their policy to release the names of adults who are held in custody following an assault charge.
