The North Bay Fire Department continues to investigate an early Friday morning blaze that left the Kabuki House Restaurant damaged and without more than half of its roof.

“North Bay Fire Prevention personnel have determined that the cause of the fire is not suspicious in any way,” stated Deputy Fire Chief Greg Saunders in a release.

“The accidental fire which has been determined to have started in the basement of the structure is believed to have caused approximately $400,000 in damages.”

The well known Japanese restaurant on Main Street West in North Bay opened in the late 1980’s.

“Nearly 30 years ago, we dared to open a Japanese restaurant in Northern Ontario and make North Bay our home,” stated the owners of the Kabuki Restaurant on their Facebook page on the weekend.

“Over the years we have had the privilege and honour to serve this beautiful community and join you through the various celebrations of life.

“We are forever grateful for the "Kabuki family" that has developed from our staff, loyal customers, and many treasured friendships.

On behalf of everyone at the Kabuki House, we want to extend our sincere appreciation for the outpouring love and support. The building is gone but the Kabuki family is well and strong.”

The Kabuki House is asking visitors to share Kabuki House photos on their Facebook page.

“Please share your Kabuki memories with us.”
