Is something up at Arclin site? Industrial condo park likely

Plans are being initiated for an industrial condo park

It appears something is going to happen at the old Arclin chemical site on Wallace Road.

The plant closed in 2014 after 50 years of operation in North Bay. The familiar resin manufacturing plant on Wallace Road, on closing, laid off 39 employees.

"We're down to a handful of customers," Senior Executive at Arclin Canada Ron Huizingh lamented at the time. "In its heyday in 1992, we had 120 customers in 30 countries. Now we are down to three customers, all within a three-hour drive."

The property is now for sale according to Realtor.ca for $1,800,000.

When BayToday went to investigate and take photos we were angrily told to, "Get off the property or we'll call the police."

Arclin did not return calls asking for more information.

Mayor Al Mcdonald said a confidentiality agreement would not allow him to comment.

The property is being marketed as an investment opportunity in an industrial business park.

"Seller is removing old structures and levelling land. Plans being initiated for an industrial condo park. Includes a re-zone towards business-friendly M2 zoning."

The ad points out that key features with this offering are a 17,000 sq. ft. warehouse building with multiple loading doors 20 feet ceiling height / insulated and heated 3,000 sq. ft workshop with 20-foot ceiling and secondary workshop garage of 2,500 sq. ft.

The property is over 22 acres with a security gate. Seller will work with a prospective buyer on needs related to zoning or condo format structure.
