UPDATED: One dead as Highway 17 east closed by traffic accident

Police fire and ambulance are on the scene.

Update: 4:45 p.m.

At 12:35 p.m. members of the Mattawa OPP responded to the report of a collision involving two vehicles on Highway 17 near HWY 630 in Calvin Township.

Preliminary information is that an eastbound SUV collided with a westbound pickup truck. The driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver of the pickup truck sustained no injuries.

OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) are currently on the scene assisting with the investigation along with the OPP Unmanned Aerial System (UAS).   

The OPP currently have HWY 17 completely closed and will advise once the highway is reopened.

There are reports coming into BayToday that Highway 17 East, near Highway 630 at Champlain Park, has been fully closed in both directions by a two vehicle traffic accident.

One person is reported deceased but remains unconfirmed at this time.

Police, fire, and ambulance are on the scene.

The accident happened around 1 p.m. and a detour has been set up through Eau Claire, coming out at Rutherglen.
