North Bay gave generously Friday as our colleagues at Moose FM hosted an hour long charity auction to help Tweedsmuir Public School Grade 2 student Kayla Leblond, who was diagnosed with Leukemia the first day of school back in September.

Folks called in to bid on outstanding prizes including a vacation package to see Ottawa play Boston in the nation’s capital in November donated by Molson’s Canada.

Molson’s North Bay Territory Sales Rep Patrick Geary said it was a pre-planned event and when asked by the Moose team if they could auction it off, he says he couldn’t find any reason to say no.

“We try to do anything we can to help,” he says.

“In fact we try to do something for everybody that asks, but especially when it is for a 6 year old girl.”

Aside from bidding on the game package and signed NHL Player’s jerseys, a number of folks stopped by to make donations including Wally Lott a crew member from North Bay Hydro who dropped off a thousand dollar cheque.

Lott, who raised the money from co-workers that morning, said he had a vested interest in the cause as he had just lost his 6-year-old niece, Alyssa Bartraw, to Leukemia only a week ago.

The event took in just over $3,500 and will be used to help offset costs the family is incurring during Kayla’s medical treatment at Sick Kids in Toronto.

Anyone wishing to make a donation to the Leblond family can do so at any TD Canada Trust branch in the city.
