A group of Ferris businesses and supporters dedicated to reviving the area is launching a contest called "Ice Off" for Lake Nipissing.

The Ferris Business Network hopes the contest, that celebrates the long-standing tradition of predicting the ice-out date, will bring attention to the south end of the city. Prizes will be up for grabs.

"Every year, locals and visitors eagerly anticipate the arrival of spring, eagerly awaiting the disappearance of the ice on Lake Nipissing," says a news release. "With the Ice Off contest, Ferris, the Place to Be, aims to bring people together and make this waiting period more engaging and enjoyable."

"We are excited to partner with the Ferris Business Network and participate in this beloved tradition," said Lola and Byron Jones, owners of Varied Treasure on Lakeshore Dr. "The Ice Off contest adds fun and anticipation to the wait, giving participants a chance to win prizes and celebrate the changing of seasons."

You can enter the contest by filling out a ballot at Laporte’s Nursery, Varied Treasure, Terry’s Place Restaurant, or by visiting the Ferris the Place to Be website and submitting their predictions along with their contact information. The contest is open to all residents and visitors.

Ferris the Place to Be is the promotional arm of a group of businesses located in Ferris, as well as residents and supporters of Ferris. The aim is to support local traditions and community engagement.

The group has previously sponsored the Ferris Fun Day, Outdoor Movie Night, and Christmas Family Party.
