Close to 200 spectators to cheered on competitors and models in categories such as junior college students, senior college students and licensed stylists.

The day included competitions and demonstrations with  internationally recognized hairstylists such as Michael Crispel, an expert in cuts, Robert Brown, a colour specialist, and Tammy Axworthy who is a master of  updo's and styling techniques.

“This gives students some experience in competing and lets them see what the industry looks like,” Debbie Melkert with KMS Canada said.

Melkert says that hair styling is a trade, just like plumbing and electrical.

Jason Portugues, Director of Marketing and Admissions with Modern College and CTS Canadian Career College added that "This is a great opportunity for not only our students but even our graduates to show the level of skill they have been able to hone in their trade. I have heard that job offers have been extended to some competitors from various salons in Northern and Southern Ontario. This is obviously very exciting for the student but also for the faculty and College as a whole".

CTS Canadian Career College acquired Modern College of Hairstyling & Esthetics last year and have not only grown locally in North Bay but also in Sudbury; a new Campus in Barrie is due to open next month.
