Emergency services respond to sudden death on Callander Bay

Lake Nipissing - On Saturday February 17th, 2007 at approximately 11:15 a.m. the Powassan OPP, Callander Volunteer Fire Department and Nipissing Ambulance responded to a call of a male who collapsed in his ice shack.

A 53 year old London, Ontario man was ice fishing on Lake Nipissing in Callander Bay when he collapsed and became unconscious in his ice shack. The ice shack was located in a busy area in the bay. Efforts to revive the male by his friends and emergency response workers was unsuccessful. Air Ambulance responded with a Doctor who declared the male deceased at the scene. He was air lifted to North Bay and a post mortem was conducted this morning (Monday February 19, 2007). The male died of apparent natural causes.

The North Bay OPP would like to thank the Callander Volunteer Fire Department, the Nipissing Ambulance and Air Ambulance personnel for their immediate attention and effort in this matter.
