East Ferris Community Centre to re-open for winter carnival

The Township of East Ferris is undertaking a much-needed renovation/addition project to upgrade and maintain the East Ferris Community Centre in Astorville. During construction, problems were discovered with the brine piping which provides refrigeration of the concrete rink slab. The replacement of the refrigerated rink slab was determined to be necessary. This has prevented the arena from operating and has inconvenienced many residents and their families.

The work of replacing the rink slab has now been contracted to the project’s General Contractor, Monteith Building Group Limited, and the work is well underway. The Contractor has and will continue to work extra hours to speed the project along. The original slab has now been removed. Insulation and refrigeration piping installation will begin very soon. The new slab is expected to be poured in mid-January and the rink will be open and operational for the Winter Carnival weekend of February 16, 2011. “We are so happy that, after the challenges we have faced, we will still be able to hold the wonderful winter carnival which is an important part of our heritage” said Mayor Bill Vrebosch.

The Mayor and Councilors wish to thank residents and other users for their patience throughout this project, as we prepare this vital facility to continue to serve our community for many years to come.
