A second giant Christmas tree was put up this morning at the Jack Burrows Square in front of the North Bay Museum.

The 40-foot tall tree is part of the Light Up Community Joy tree initiative between the North Bay Museum and the Heritage Gardners.

The tree, put up today by Eagle Tree & Landscaping Services, will be lit up with 5,000 lights around 8:45 p.m. during a ceremony on the night of the Christmas Walk on November 29.

"We partnered with the North Bay Museum to raise funds to support the ongoing projects of both of our organizations so we thought it would be a great idea to get the community involved and invite everybody to buy a light for $5, a light in memory of a loved one or a special occasion, and then we will light it during the Christmas Walk," said Jade Scognamillo, North Bay Heritage Gardeners, Executive Director.

Scognamillo says already more than 630 bulbs have been sold with close to $3,150 in funds raised will go to special projects for the two organizations.

Naomi Hehn, North Bay Museum Curator says residents can buy lights at a number of stores downtown and at the North Bay Museum. As well they can dedicate them to a loved one or a special holiday memory to be displayed in the windows of the North Bay Museum.

"I think it looks spectacular, we are so excited to have it here in front of the museum for the Christmas season and we are hoping that a lot of people take the opportunity to come here and check it out," said Hehn.

Lights can also be purchased online here.  or here

A museum spokesperson says the tree was posing a threat to a home because it was located within a few feet of it. The homeowners requested that it come down. The tree did not come down specifically for this purpose. It's the first year but the plan is to also use a tree next year that needs to come down for hydro wire or home safety.

After the tree lighting, a choir will sing Silent Night.

There will also be cookies and hot chocolate served at the ceremony.

The other Christmas Tree, located on the corner of Fraser and Main Street, will be lit during a ceremony earlier that same evening of the Downtown Christmas Walk.
