The North Bay Police Service announced that Scot Tod will be the man to replace Shawn Devine as the new Chief of Police.

That announcement came during today’s North Bay Police Services Board meeting.

While Tod will officially shift into Devine’s position in May or June, his position of deputy chief is one that was not filled today.

Police board chair Dennis O’Connor says the board will be looking both internally and externally to fill the position.

It’s a board decision but it is something Tod will be keeping a close eye on.

“I think the board, more than myself, will be looking for someone they will be comfortable with,” said Tod.

“One of the reasons I was fully prepared to accept the chief's position was the fact that we have a very mature police services board in North Bay. They understand the issues that are involved in modernizing police services. They also understand what we should be delivering to the public, so the board will want to be comfortable with whoever they select and of course, I am someone who is able to work well within the service at all levels. Not only with the chief's office but everyone else including civilians and our uniform members.”

Devine will stay until late June but will likely take some holiday time before that.

He says he doesn’t want to get in the way of the new leadership.

“I think it depends on where the board goes with a new deputy chief,” noted Devine.

“I certainly don’t want to be here and be in the way of a new administration that is getting ready.”
