This is not a Flood Advisory or a Flood Warning, but a Statement providing information on the weather forecasted over the next 36 hours and its impact on the watershed.

As predicted, a Colorado Low has begun to track through Ontario. The heaviest hit areas are expected to be in the Peterborough, Bancroft, Parry Sound, Sudbury, North Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, Chapleau, Timmins and Kirkland Lake areas.

The North Bay-Mattawa area is forecasted to receive between 45 and 65mm of rain today, with the majority of precipitation expected this afternoon and overnight. Thunderstorms are embedded in the system which could make rain heavy at times.

On Friday, November 1st, the system will continue to affect the Province as it tracks eastward, bringing an additional 5-10mm of rainfall to the area before ending on Friday evening.

Risk:

Recent precipitation has resulted in higher than normal streamflows throughout the North Bay-Mattawa area and ground conditions remain saturated. It is likely that many areas will see increased streamflows. Heavy downpours could cause minor flooding and/or drainage issues in low-lying areas.

Caution is advised around waterways in the area, including sections of lakes and streams that are prone to flowing water or currents.

Staff at the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority will continue to monitor weather and watershed conditions and provide updates if conditions change.

The general public is advised of these messages through the www.nbmca.on.ca website with the flood status icon and a link to information about current conditions. NBMCA also issues these messages to local media.
