Collision With Moose Claims Life

Members from the Powassan and North Bay Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a single motor vehicle collision involving a car and a moose. The collision took place on Highway 11 south of Powassan, at approximately 07:45 PM last evening.

The driver of the vehicle, Ty SAVELA, age 70, was treated for injuries in North Bay while his wife, Elizabeth SAVELA, also 70, did not survive the crash. Both are from Kirkland Lake, Ontario.

Assisting in the investigation were OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI), an OPP Technical Identification Services Unit (TISU) and the Powassan Volunteer Fire Department.
