College faculty welcome news that management wants to renew talks

'Let's get back to the table. Let's get the job done and get back to classes'

Local Canadore College faculty are pleased with news this morning that management is asking the mediator for new talks.

Ontario colleges have asked the provincially appointed mediator to bring the colleges and OPSEU Academic back to the table to resume bargaining tomorrow.

"This strike has gone on for too long. We need to end the strike and get our students and faculty back in the classroom. We can reach a settlement quickly and have classes start again early next week," said Sonia Del Missier, Chair, Colleges' Bargaining Team. "We will focus our efforts at the table and work very hard to reach a deal that ends the strike."

That's good news for local president John Patterson.

"It's good news that they're finally willing to go back into discussions. This is what we heard from Kathleen Wynne saying she was going to put pressure on the college council to get back to the table. It's welcome news."

Patterson says the union has been willing to bargain all along.

"Let's get back to the table. Let's get the job done and get back to classes," he said.
