Close but no record

North Bay golf pro Glen Cundari hit 1888 golf balls today as he attempted to break the Guinness world record for the most golf balls struck in one hour.

North Bay golf pro Glen Cundari hit 1888 golf balls today as he attempted to break the Guinness world record for the most golf balls struck in one hour.

For several weeks Cundari had been practising his swing and conditioning his body for today’s event and while he was a mere 259 golf balls shy of the record, he still helped out area kids.

The event was not only an attempt to break a record, but it was also a fundraiser for KidSport.

An emotional Cundari told the crowd that had gathered to cheer him on that he was a bit disappointed that he wasn’t successful, but said overall the event had a good flavour to it.

“The philanthropic thing to do is say we raised a lot of money. We helped families who could not afford organised sport.”

“I got off to a rough start,” he states.

“But when you know you’re not going to break the record you don’t pack it in.”

“I’d love to try it again as a challenge,” he adds.
In just one hour Cundari raised just over $16,000 for KidSport, which in turn means 70 kids will now be able to participate in organised sports.
