City residents now walking on fame

For Better or For Worse cartoonist Lynn Johnston is all smiles looking at her name carved in stone during North Bay’s Walk of Fame celebrations Thursday.

The inaugural stones for North Bay’s Walk of Fame, which sit at the corner of Main Street and Ferguson Street, were officially unveiled Thursday.

During a special ceremony hosted by the Kiwanis Club The first six recipients; Author Giles Blunt (Crime Machine, By the Time You Read This (The Fields of Grief in the UK), Black Fly Season, The Delicate Storm, Forty Words for Sorrow) Michel Dupuis (Franco-Ontario flag designer) Bruce Goulet (founder of North Bay’s waterfront), Susan Hay (Global TV personality), Sam Jacks (inventor of Ringette) and Lynn Johnston (world famous cartoonist - For Better or For Worse) were celebrated for their successes and contributions in and outside the city limits.

“Today just brings everything back to my foundation growing up here,” says Susan Hay.

“I still love it I come home every chance I have to see my family so it’s just it’s a nice honour I appreciate it and I’m truly humbled to see that today so it’s very nice.”

Lynn Johnston says she can’t wait to nominate others for the next instalment of stones.

“It’s wonderful; I’m really pleased and flattered.”

“I think it means a great deal and can’t wait to see the next line of names that are going to go down and I want to be the first to recommend folks cause I know some people who are infinitely worthy and should be walked on too,” Johnston says with a smile.
