City releases more details on Ramada Inn power issues

'Until such a time as the power has been restored to the building and City Building Officials have conducted an inspection of the premises to confirm all appropriate minimum standards and life safety measures have been restored'

The City of North Bay's building department has revealed more details behind North Bay's Ramada Inn Pinewood Park which was forced to close for two weeks for "electrical issues."

It's expected to open again Thursday, December 1.

The Building Department claims the power was initially disconnected back on November 3.

"The electrical service to 201 Pinewood Park Drive had been disconnected on or about November 3, 2022, due to electrical violations cited by the Electrical Safety Authority," the Building Department stated.

"As there is no power to the building to maintain the required Fire Alarm and Detection system nor minimum lighting provisions to comply with the Ontario Building Code, the City has issued an Order – Unsafe Building, and Order Prohibiting the Use and Occupancy of the building until such a time as the power has been restored to the building and City Building Officials have conducted an inspection of the premises to confirm all appropriate minimum standards and life safety measures have been restored."

A City of North Bay Building Department document is taped to the front door dated Nov. 17.

The "Order to Remedy Unsafe Building" signed by Chief Building Official Carly Price states "Electrical service has been terminated by local provider: no power to operate required fire alarm system of minimum lighting."

The order is addressed to Gupta Jatinder at 201 Pinewood Park Drive, the address of the hotel, and demanded immediate compliance.

Repeated calls by BayToday to Ramada's head office seeking further details were not returned.
