Ontario has provided approximately $1.3 million to the Nipissing area to improve Highway 63 from Connaught Avenue to Highway 11/17 in the City of North Bay.

Improvements made to this roadway will create a safer commute for drivers and the surrounding communities.

Funding for this project is made possible through the Ontario government’s Connecting Link program, which was announced in the 2009 Budget. The Connecting Link program enables municipalities to repair roadways which connect two ends of a provincial highway through an urban area.

Some key features of the Connecting Link program include:

 $15 million in funding to municipalities for road and bridge repairs

 A total of 26 projects will receive funding from the Connecting Link program.

"I am delighted that North Bay has been included in these 26 projects and will be receiving over $1 million. ‬The Connecting Link program is ensuring our residents will have better roads,” said Monique Smith,” MPP for Nipissing. “These improvements will provide motorists with a safer and more efficient way to travel around North Bay.”

“The investments made through the Connecting Link program will help communities build safer roadways, while stimulating the economy through job creation and the efficient movement of goods and services,” said Jim Bradley, Minister of Transportation.

“The City is pleased to contribute $437,500 to this important Connecting Link project. This joint funding project helps maintain a principle access from heavily populated subdivisions into the city's core, as well as a vital link between north western Quebec into our city. Trout Lake Road is a main collector street for both small vehicle and heavy truck traffic, and serves as an additional entrance into the city,” said North Bay Mayor, Vic Fedeli.
