On Friday October 2nd and Saturday October 3rd, 2009 at the Canadore College Gymnasium , local volleyball players will be playing for a cure for cystic fibrosis . CSRC and NUSU's Shinerama campaign has already surpassed its original goal of $15,000, by raising over $23,000 already. This charity fundraiser will put NUSU and CSRC surpass the 6 year old fundraising record of $23, 190 to be donated to the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. This is just one of many planned fundraisers NUSU and CSRC plan to organize to raise funds to support the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's search for a cure, or control for cystic fibrosis (CF).

Shinerama is Canada's largest post-secondary school fundraiser, involving students from more than 60 universities and colleges. The campaign, which began in 1964, has raised almost $20 million to help fund CF research and treatment programs. Nipissing University and Canadore College hope to add over another $24,000 to that amount through the school's efforts this year.

"Shinerama is NUSU's and CSRC's most successful annual fundraiser, where every dollar goes to finding a cure," says NUSU VP External, and Shinerama co-ordinator Anna Fitzsimmons. Fitzsimmons believes that secondary fundraisers such as this weekend's volleyball tournament will help raise awareness throughout the community about CF.
