With warmer weather in full swing, the North Bay Police Service is reminding drivers to remove studded tires from their vehicles by the end of May.
Under Ontario’s Highway Traffic Act, vehicles registered in northern Ontario can be equipped with studded tires between September 1 and May 31. Studded tires are prohibited on vehicles registered in southern Ontario say police.
Drivers who continue to use studded tires after May 31 can face a fine of $85. Commercial motor vehicles face a fine of $200.
According Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation, studded tires are less effective on bare pavement than all season tires.
Remember to remove your studded tires from your vehicle by this Wednesday, May 31, 2023.
