The popular restaurant Burger World Hammond is taking to social media in an attempt to identify a thief that broke into the business early this morning.
"1 a.m. this morning Burger World Hammond experienced a break in. Last week our neighbours at Seemore Graphics was broken into," says its Facebook page. "The rash of smash and grabs throughout the city have become a regular occurrence. We are offering a $1000.00 reward for the arrest and conviction of this POS. Please contact the city Police or crime Stoppers. Please share also."
The thief also cut the telephone lines before the break in.
"He's a pro! Please support our local police in arresting this man," the website asks. "More than five local businesses in the area have been hit in the last two weeks!!!"
"We do have video and he will be caught!"
Police say the thief used a rock to smash the door's window and enter the restaurant. He then stole cash from the cash register before fleeing.
The restaurant opened, as usual, this morning.
As North Bay Police continue to investigate a number of recent break-ins, businesses are advised to ensure that their premises are secure and that no cash is left behind in cash registers when businesses are closed.
"The posting of notices, such as 'No cash left on premises overnight,' in storefront windows is a wise business practice," says a police news release.
