Almaguin Highlands Secondary School and Widdifield Secondary School are preparing for the Sears Drama Festival Provincial Showcase. This invitation only festival showcases 12 prestigious productions from across Ontario that represent outstanding achievement in high school theatre.

Almaguin Highlands will present “Women of Troy” a one act adaptation of the classic Greek Tragedy called “The Trojan Women” by Euripides. Chloe Tekavcic’s was presented the Adjudicator’s Award for her portrayal of Hecuba, and entire cast ensemble was commended for their team work and ability to “draw the audience in” to the play at the regional festival.

Widdifield will present "Two Households" based on William Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet", minus the star-crossed soul mates (adapted by the play’s director, Mr. Rob McCubbin, and Mrs. T. Webb). Steven Smits received the prestigious Stage Manager’s Award, and the highly technical drama, which features slow motion action, complex fight scenes and a Stanley ‘Kuberesk’ dance sequence, received an award of Excellence at the regional completion.

The Near North District School Board would like to congratulate the cast, crew and directors of both performances. Your time and dedication to the arts has been rewarded with this exciting skill building opportunity. Break a leg!
