The Near North District School Board held its organizational meeting Tuesday, December 15, 2009.

Alan Bottomley, a trustee for the Near North District School Board since December 2000, was elected Chair of the Board. Prior to Alan’s retirement, he was a teacher at Almaguin Highlands Secondary School.

Trustee Bottomley, a former Chairperson, is known as a strong advocate for students and the vitality of our school communities; striving to protect the rural schools and improving the quality of our learners’ educational experience.

Trustee Goupil, who has served as Trustee on the Near North District School Board since January 2006, has been re-elected Vice-Chair.

The Board of Trustees is comprised of 8 elected trustees, a First Nation representative elected by First Nations in the area and a student representative elected by the Student Senate of the Board.

The Board offers diverse programs and services to approximately 11,000 students in 42 schools and several alternative programs, in numerous communities across a wide geographic region. Trustees and staff of the Near North District School Board are committed to student success as we fulfill our mission to “educate learners to their fullest potential in preparation for life-long learning.”
