Another McGill brother from the Ecole secondaire Algonquin Barons senior varsity football team is heading to the high profile St. Francis Xavier University X-Men football program.

James McGill, has been recruited as a defensive back for the X-Men who won the 48th annual Loney Bowl conference championship in November of 2021.

He was named an NDA All-Star as a wide receiver as the Barons captured their first senior boys NDA football title since 1981.

"I’d like to thank my coaches especially coach 'Debs' [Ryan Desbiens] for everything he’s done for me, also like to thank my teammates and my school for giving me the opportunity play football, I also want to thank the StFX football program and the school for giving me an opportunity to play for them. I’m truly grateful and extremely excited to get started," said the multi-sport athlete who also attended the Powassan Voodoos main camp in September.

"I also want to thank my parents for everything that they do for me and most importantly, I want to thank God for giving me this opportunity and opening this door in life."

David McGill, James' older brother was recruited to StFX out of Algonquin in the summer of 2021

Barons head coach Ryan Desbiens is thrilled to see another McGill and another Barons alum move on to U-Sport Football.

"It’s awesome, we are very excited for him, and unbelievably proud as well," Desbiens told BayToday.

"To be able to witness his progression as an individual and as a football player, from grade 9 until now, is special, and, in a sense, rewarding. I wish him nothing best the best moving forward. It’s also cool because he has a chance to play with his older brother Dave who is currently on the StFX roster as a DT."
