North Bay is host this September to the annual Rotary District 7010 Conference with over 400 Rotarians & their guests registered to attend, joining their hosts, the Nipissing and North Bay Rotary Clubs, for a terrific 4 days of activities beginning Thursday, September 28th and ending Sunday, October 1, 2006.

One of the highlights of the Conference will be the presentation by Stephan Lewis at Nipissing University on Thursday September 28 and Mr. Lewis will be addressing the conference as well over the weekend. Other keynote speakers include Dr. Alex Mihailorie, speaking on African issues, and Andre Picard, one of the top health reporters in the Americas, on meeting public health challenges, Sunday will feature a special program by Christine Fortin of “Patrice4Life” on awareness & education campaign dedicated to educating youth about how to prevent the transmission of HIV/AIDS. Christine lost her son Patrick to Aids resulting from contaminated blood. “Patrick4Life” was founded by Christine & her husband Christain, member of the Nipissing Rotary Club.

Rotary is a worldwide organization of business and professional leaders that provides humanitarian service, encourages high ethical standards in all vocations, and helps build goodwill and peace in the world. Approximately 1.2 million Rotarians belong to more than 32,00 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas.

Rotary’s motto is “Service Above Self” and this is demonstrated in the numerous local, regional, national and, international projects Rotarians are involved in including fundraising for the new hospital, Polio Plus, Group Study Exchange, Youth Exchange, African Water Projects, local literacy campaigns and much, much more.

Rotary’s theme for their 2006-07 year is “Lead The Way” and all attendees at the conference are not only leaders in their own communities but will have an opportunity to hear their leaders in their fields speak on important issues but also have a venue to share ideas with other Rotarians on how to tackle local, regional and international challenges.

With four days of activities planned we have an opportunity to showcase our city & show all North Bay has to offer our guests from around the province.
