The North Bay-Parry Sound District Health Unit is reporting 13 new cases of COVID-19 in the district.

The new weekend numbers were released by the Health Unit at 9:30 a.m. Monday morning.

A total of 11 of the cases are in Nipissing with the other two in Parry Sound.

"Ugh, not a good way to start the week," stated North Bay Mayor Al McDonald in his daily COVID-19 update.

"We need to get serious. We need everyone to stop any activity outside the protocols that are recommended. The modeling below will show where we are going. I believe we will see even further restrictions being announced given what we are hearing provincially and nationally."

McDonald says residents have to be respectful and considerate.

"We had heard right from the beginning the 2nd wave would be far worse than the first wave," stated McDonald.

"We know people are exhausted and feeling fatigued by COVID-19. In the first wave, there was a real sense of we are all in this together. While I continue to see here in our community that is still strong, it angers people when they see people traveling to snowmobile or fish during a shutdown when they are not visiting their own families. (Sorry we do NOT have jurisdiction to stop people from going south or people traveling north)."

The 13 cases reported on Monday is the most reported at one time by the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit.
