Dear Editor,

The City of North Bay recognizes and appreciates the sentiments expressed by two recent letter writers regarding the need for overall improvements in accessibility at our beaches and other facilities. The availability of accessible parking closer to the beach is indeed a valid concern, which we are committed to addressing.

We would like to clarify, however, that the City worked closely with the Municipal Accessibility Advisory Committee (MAAC) on the accessible mat initiative at Shabogesic Beach in response to the needs of individuals with disabilities and mobility challenges.

The official opening of the beach mat at Shabogesic Beach was met with enthusiasm, and due to the success of the project, a second mat was installed at Olmsted Beach.

We would like to emphasize that enhancing accessibility is an ongoing process for the City of North Bay. We continuously address accessibility concerns through the renewal of assets and ongoing collaboration with the Municipal Accessibility Advisory Committee.

The City appreciates the feedback from the community, as it will assist in informing our future initiatives.

Gord Young
