Opinion: Bill Walton, Good-bye Sir

Good-bye and farewell from our history sir
20210618 snake walton

statues desecrated tumbling

removed stored dissembled

bridges roads buildings renamed

schools rededicated

history texts revised redacted

artwork covered hidden

currency with your image shunned

the name Macdonald forever cursed

now we see you for what you were

not the man who envisioned Canada

not the man who cajoled political leaders

finally winning them in Charlottetown

but the dissolute drunkard who pushed

a railroad from sea to sea

a corrupt politician who legislated

against the Chinese

against the Blacks from the South

against Riel and for forced assimilation

of the native peoples

and had we at this time a Governor General

we would revoke your knighthood

demand apology from the dead Queen

and all of our forefathers who

supported you and your heinous behaviour

Good-bye and farewell from our history sir
