Community Builders Awards: Simone Branch is an athlete and role model dedicated to promoting diversity and inclusion

BayToday’s first Young Leader Community Builders Award goes to Simone, a source of inspiration at Nipissing University

Simone Branch is a student-athlete at Nipissing University who has made a huge impact on the school community.

She has been the Administrative Director for the Nipissing University Black Association for Student Expression’s (NUBASE) for the last two years. During this time, Simone has made a concerted effort to advocate for Black communities, specifically Black females, and she has become a mentor for young women in North Bay, helping to lead workshops in local high schools.

This past fall, Simone collaborated with Future Black Female to help young Black women

gain a better understanding of the professional working world and prepare them for struggles they may face.

An advocate for community involvement, she is consistently encouraging others to volunteer and get involved with meaningful causes and initiatives on campus, setting a positive example for younger students.

As a Nipissing University soccer player, former ringette player, and women’s basketball team manager, Simone has been influential in women’s sports and has shown her professionalism on and off the field. Her strong work ethic, resiliency, dedication, initiative, humility and discipline have all made her an incredible leader in the North Bay community.

The Young Leader award goes to an individual or group under 25 years of age actively involved in worthwhile community service, in any one of the Community Builders categories. Recipients are young leaders who show a commitment in making their community better for others.

Congratulations, Simone!

This award is proudly sponsored by Voyageur Aviation.
