Community Builders Awards: Roy Slack’s leadership second to none in mining industry

This year’s Economic Development award winner paves path forward to improve mining practices and safety standards

Roy Slack, a professional engineer with over 35 years of experience in the mining sector, was instrumental in bringing Cementation to North Bay in 1998.

What started as a small office with only seven employees has expanded to become one of the largest mine contractors in North America, with over 150 local employees and approximately 1,500 worldwide.

In 2016, Cementation was recognized as a Safest Employer in Canada Gold Winner in the natural resources sector.

Under Roy’s leadership, the company has had a profound positive impact on the community of North Bay, not only through job development and bolstering revenue in our city, but also by supporting non-profit organizations, charities and community events over the last 25 years.

He is dedicated to getting more young people interested and employed in the mining sector.

Throughout his career in mine construction, design and development, Roy has helped to maximize the economic potential of Northern Ontario communities.

He is also passionate about improving workplace safety and supporting other businesses and organizations in the development of state-of-the-art training and innovation development within the mining industry.

The Economic Development award is presented to an individual or group that has had an impact on the economic well-being of the community.

Congratulations, Roy!

This award is proudly sponsored by Redpath Mining Contractors and Engineers.
