Community Builders Awards: Our first Education Award honours the exceptional achievements and dedication of a remarkable educator

Lisa O'Kane’s inspiring leadership leaves a lasting impact on the North Bay community

Lisa O'Kane, a former principal of Widdifield Secondary School, is known as an exceptional leader who pours her heart and soul into her work.

Lisa’s leadership, dedication and unwavering commitment to education has made her an exemplary role model for all students and faculty.

Lisa always looked for ways to improve local education, even beyond the school environment.

By spearheading the construction of Almaguin Highlands Secondary School in 2009, Lisa ensured the project captured the community spirit of the old school as it moved to a new location.

Lisa's leadership and efforts continue to shine throughout the community as she participates in charity walks and runs, supports various North Bay initiatives and dedicates her time to the Special Olympics, providing coaching and support to athletes.

Continuing to lead by example, Lisa organized the Benefit Concert for the North Bay Regional Hospital Chemotherapy Unit, pledging $10,000 to help the hospital purchase a blanket warmer for the unit.

Since retirement, Lisa continues her contribution to local education by teaching the Bachelor of Education program at Nipissing University, where she leads the next generation of teachers, inspiring others to also become compassionate and effective educators.

This award goes to a student, teacher, administrator, or education advocate who has made a difference in the North Bay area. It could be an extraordinary teacher who has changed the direction of students’ lives, an administrator who established a specialized program, or an advocate who saved a school from closing.

Congratulations, Lisa!

This award is proudly sponsored by The Redpath Group, Mining Contractors and Engineers.
