Wolves and Hounds tie

The Sudbury Wolves built up what appeared to be a comfortable lead only to see the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds eventually claw their way back into the game as the two Northern OHL clubs battled to a 4-4 tie at the Steelback Centre in Sault Ste. Marie.

Sudbury jumped on the Greyhounds early and with goals by rookie Marcus Foligno and Patrick Lusnak, the Wolves led 2-0 just 4:06 in. Patrick Verreault added another before the period was out for a 3-0 advantage.

Before the opening 20 minutes was finished, Hounds' tough guy Brandon Biggers squared off with the Wolves Gerome Giudice in a entertaining heavyweight bout.

Perhaps inspired by Biggers, the Hounds stormed out in the second period as James Livingston scored on the power play just 11 seconds in. Chris MacKinnon followed with another shortly after to close the gap to 3-2.

Despite several quality scoring chances, including a missed breakaway by Dustin Jeffrey, the Hounds found themselves down 4-2 heading to the third period as Justin Dicks scored for the Wolves late in the middle frame.

In the third, Livingston potted his second goal of the game at 5:46 and MacKinnon notched his second less than two minutes later to tie the score as the Hounds continued to press the Wolves.

It appeared that MacKinnon may have scored his hat trick goal with three minutes remaining to give the Hounds the lead but the referee waived off the goal and video replay was not available for the game.

Because of the fact the game was an exhibition, overtime was not played.

The Wolves will play their exhibition CHL game against the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies on Saturday night at Memorial Gardens here in North Bay.

Tickets are still available at the Memorial Gardens box office.
