Mother Nature has made practicing a challenge but West Ferris Trojans head coach Mark Robertson is glad his team is still practicing.

The NOSSA champion West Ferris Trojans football team packed its bags this morning for a trip to Hamilton where tomorrow they will compete in the Northern Bowl against the Sir Winston Churchill Collegiate Trojans out of Thunder Bay at Tim Horton’s Field on Wednesday as part of the OFSAA Bowl festival taking place this week in Canada’s Steel City.

“We are trying to prepare as best we can and there are some challenges with the weather outside, as we have been practicing inside and just trying to maintain timing and the crispness of our offence and maintaining fitness levels and stuff like that as best we can,” said Robertson.

The Trojans qualified for the big game thanks to an upset 25-24 win over the unbeaten Korah Colts from Sault Ste. Marie in the NOSSA final at the Steve Omischl Sports Complex back on November 11th.

The Trojans are well rested, while the Thunder Bay competition just finished their regional OFSAA Bowl qualifier on November 18th.

“They are really a senior-laden team, my understanding was their school was scheduled to close and then they gave it a one-year reprieve so a lot of students decided to come back so,” said Robertson.

“Their association has historically done well at the OFSAA bowl series so the football in Thunder Bay is very high caliber, it’s really good. Winston Churchill has got an explosive offence and a very aggressive defence so we are going to have our hands full for sure.”

Kick off is set for 11 a.m. at Tim Horton’s Field Wednesday morning.
