The West Ferris Trojans went to overtime Sunday afternoon as they beat the St. Joseph's Scollard Hall Bears 1-0 to capture the 31st annual NDA hockey tournament crown.

Cameron Fry scored the game's only goal for West Ferris at 2:45 of overtime.

West Ferris forward Dan Weber was named the tournament MVP.

The Bears got to the final by beating the defending champions from Lasalle 4-0, while the Trojans doubled up Robert Bateman from Burlington 4-2 in the other semi-final.

The Trojans last won the high school hockey tournament back in 1989.

Tournament convener Anthony Loreto was pleased to see two North Bay squads in the final.

"Having two North Bay teams in the finals and 4 local teams in the quarter finals is a good indication of how we will compete at NOSSA," Loreto said.

The tournament also featured an American team from Maine, and as far as Loreto knows, that may have been a first.

On the girls side, the West Ferris girls shut out Marymount 5-0 in the Aeros final, while the St. Joseph's Scollard Hall Bears defeated Parry Sound 4-1 in the Thunder final.
